The document highlights the program impact pathways, progress made to date, some of its implementation challenges, and mitigation plan, as well as a way forward including program adaptation to COVID-19. Finally, it highlights the program's legacy.
Recurrent droughts, floods and other shocks can quickly lead to nutrition emergencies and undermine investment and development gains. Given the existing vulnerability and susceptibility of the population to these hazards, robust monitoring and early warning mechanisms enabling early action are essential. Growth through Nutrition will establish a crisis modifier fund to enable rapid initiation of emergency response activities when the situation on the ground warrants.
In consultation with USAID, the project will propose use of these funds when a project-supported woreda is classified as a nutrition hotspot or when productivity is significantly reduced from the norm resulting in limited food availability. The project will respond to identified emergencies with a set of activities tailored to the specific challenges.
