Key Health, Nutrition and Agricultural Services in the face of COVID-19 in Ethiopia: Lessons Learned
This Growth through Nutrition webinar titled “Key Health, Nutrition and Agricultural Services in the face of COVID-19 in Ethiopia: Lessons Learned” from February 3, 2021, presents and discusses some significant changes in the health and agricultural sectors before and after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact health and economics at a global level in both large and small ways, strong efforts have been made in Ethiopia to better understand the specific impacts on the health, nutrition and agricultural sectors. Recent research was presented in this event, which were conducted by Growth through Nutrition Activity and IFPRI to specifically assess changes to health and agricultural services in Ethiopia due to the pandemic, and to inform ongoing and future support in recovery of critical services.

This Growth through Nutrition webinar titled “Transforming Food Systems – Lessons Learned from Global and Local Experience” on Dec 1, 2020, highlighted the core elements of food systems, external drivers, and political economy issues that facilitate or impede important changes in food systems. Critical gaps in knowledge regarding the tradeoffs between targets embedded in the SDGs were explored as well as a discussion of policies that can bring about dramatic changes in food systems. Two commenters reflected on the topic focusing on the context of the Ethiopian food system.

This webinar was presented by the Growth through Nutrition Activity on September 30, 2020, on the "Implications of COVID-19 on Nutrition: Lessons Learned and Practical & Innovative Approaches - Perspectives from Civil Society, Government, Academia, Private and Development Partners." The presenters are Dr. Eileen Kennedy from Tufts University, Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Dr. Sisay Sinamo from the Seqota Declaration (SD) Federal Program Delivery Unit at the Ministry of Health, Ethiopia, and Dr. Amare Deribew from Nutrition International. The event brought together representatives from government, civil society, and academia to discuss lessons learned, practical and innovative approaches regarding COVID-19, different sectors’ adaptation and response plans, and recommendations to address the current and future epidemic and minimize its negative impact on nutrition.

This webinar comes from a learning event presented by Growth through Nutrition Activity on June 27, 2017, on the topic of “Evidence Use for Policy & Programs: Generating Evidence.” The presenters are Dr. Eileen Kennedy and Dr. Shibani Ghosh from Tufts University, Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. The event aimed to help create a common understanding around the importance and implications of evidence for informing programs and policy among project partners and stakeholders and covered topics including why evidence is needed, how evidence is generated, various levels of evidence and a discussion of study designs.
